why do indian students coming to US for masters in science need a bank loan?

Question by abc x: why do indian students coming to US for masters in science need a bank loan?
Aren’t they sponsored by the grad school? I have heard that , in science, students get paid for studying. So, why do students pick up a student loan?

Best answer:

Answer by PE2008
Some graduate Science schools do offer stipends to students.

More common is the so-called “rupee whore” USA school which will take all the Indian students it can get, by the planeload, so long as they pay full tuition. Since university studies in the USA are extremely expensive, such students need to take out student loans.

Allmand Law Helps Discharge Students Loans In Bankruptcy During Recession

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) December 08, 2011

Allmand Law successfully helped an overwhelmed debtor discharge all of their student loans in bankruptcy. Despite the difficulty of discharging student loans in bankruptcy, Allmand Law says that the recession is making a bankruptcy discharge more probable for some debtors.

?This debtor was simply overwhelmed by massive amounts of student loan debt. The bad economy made impossible for him to earn enough cash to pay his loans so he filed bankruptcy,? said Reed Allmand, the managing partner for Allmand Law. ?The student loan debt was such a burden that the debtor even spoke of suicide. The bankruptcy discharge probably saved this man?s life.?

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union?s ?Reality Store? teaches Francis C. Hammond Middle School students how to balance a household budget

(PRWEB) November 30, 2011

Students at Francis C. Hammond Middle School got a ?dose of reality? during CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union’s “Reality Store” activity on November 17th, 2011.

The “Reality Store” is a yearly event that CommonWealth One along with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Agency put together at Hammond. This activity is designed to give students a chance to learn what it’s like to balance a household budget. Participants are assigned careers with their corresponding incomes, and given fictional families of varying numbers. Using their monthly income as a guide, students must find a place to live, decide what vehicle they can afford to purchase, buy insurance for themselves and their families, save at the credit union, shop for groceries, etc. There are also random circumstances assigned to each person, so they may receive a “surprise IRS refund” or incur “an accident that generated $ 1,000 in medical bills.”
