How does student loan debt affect my credit score?

Question by Fly girl: How does student loan debt affect my credit score?
I am at the final stage of paying off credit card balances. Just one more month, yippee!!!! I’ve also already paid off my car loan 7 months before the maturation date. Anyway, I still have close to $ 50,000 in student loan debts- federal and private. But that’s it. I have never had any major credit problems. Will all this student loan debt have a negative impact on my credit score and rating?
I always make the payments on time every month.

Question by li.sharks: Can I file a student loan interest deduction if I was not a student during the tax year?
I took out student loans in 2002 for which I am still paying. I paid $ 682 in interest in tax year 2009. I read that you have to be a student for the deduction. I was not a student during tax year 2009 however I was obviously a student when I took the loans out. Do I qualify for this deduction?

why do indian students coming to US for masters in science need a bank loan?

Question by abc x: why do indian students coming to US for masters in science need a bank loan?
Aren’t they sponsored by the grad school? I have heard that , in science, students get paid for studying. So, why do students pick up a student loan?

Best answer:

Answer by PE2008
Some graduate Science schools do offer stipends to students.

More common is the so-called “rupee whore” USA school which will take all the Indian students it can get, by the planeload, so long as they pay full tuition. Since university studies in the USA are extremely expensive, such students need to take out student loans.

No. You will need to apply for a private loan. Nothing education based and nothing with Title IV backing.
Hope this helps!
